Thanks Louanne

A small celebration was held at our CWL meeting in January to say goodbye and thanks to Louanne who has now stepped down from the position of past president of our council. We enjoyed many fond memories of our seven years together and welcomed Valerie to her role as our new past president and Anne as the president.

2017 – CWL Activities

  • 2017 - A year to remember

It is time again for our annual membership drive and as we look forward to another year filled with faith, fun and fulfillment we remember fondly some events of the past year. 2017 got off to a good start with members attending The Mass for Migrants and Sisters’ Appreciation Dinner. The Easter Lily sale, Mother’s Day basket raffle and Surprise Spring Bulb Sale fundraisers generated money for our working fund, youth mental health services and the Parish building fund. We took part in the Twelve Hours of Prayer for Palliative Care, celebrated Our Lady of Good Counsel Feast Day, Five Year Memberships and took part in the Diocesan Convention. We participated in the Marian procession and Parish picnic, held a Strawberry Tea and handed out Dad’s cookies for Father’s Day. We enjoyed summer walks in the park, making wrist Rosaries and Mark Norbury speaking to us on the History of the Rosary. The year came to a close at our Christmas social where we collected socks for the homeless and finally with many members participating in and attending the most wonderful Christmas Concert.

Christmas Fun

The annual Christmas party this year was held in early December at Anna’s house. It was a great success as usual with lots of fun, laughter and friendship, good food, a gift exchange which involved lots of moving and swapping of presents but most importantly a collection of socks for the homeless. The socks were delivered recently on a very rainy afternoon to a local homeless shelter and were greatly received.

5 Year Anniversary

The CWL at St. Joseph’s Parish was established seven years ago in October 2010 and many members who joined at that time are still active today. In April of this year certificates and pins were handed out to those who have been members for at least five years. Janet who was travelling at the time received her certificate at a recent meeting.

Sunday October 29th – A Special Day

To honour blessed Mary, the CWL will join with the Knights and members of the Parish before both the 9:00 and 11:00am Masses to pray the Rosary. Then at the monthly meeting, 12:30pm in the portable, they will welcome Mark Norbury to speak on The History of the Rosary. The ladies will also make lovely wrist rosaries to keep or give to someone special. Please plan to join your CWL sisters on this day for some reflection, fun and friendship.

Divine Mercy Sunday – Encountering Mercy

On Sunday April 3, 2016 St. Matthew’s in Surrey with Pastor Reverend Tien Tran opened its doors in a 4 hour afternoon of Encountering Mercy through prayer, song and inspirational speakers. Anne Deheer, Erica Penner and Louanne Richards attended the event.

Sr. John Mary Sullivan, FSE, spoke to families on bearing wrongs patiently (this is one of the Corporal Works of Mercy).  Psychologist Denis Boyd talked to grandparents about nurturing guidance and listening to our grandchildren. Before the celebration of Mass with Archbishop Michael Miller, the choir from St. Matthews sang the Divine Mercy Chaplet with the congregation participating. It served as a powerful witness.

Lilies of the Fields in Remembrance

St, Joseph’s Parish CWL Council annually has an Easter Lily Sale. Parishioners have an opportunity to purchase a Lily plant in remembrance of a loved one, while serving a twofold blessed purpose of decorating the sanctuary and altar for Easter.

Jesus Has Risen! Alleluia!

CWL Executive Meetings

Who is to say that CWL executive meetings have to be all work and no play.  Not St. Joseph’s CWL Port Moody Executive!

Valerie Lovato, Jessica Pan, Diane Aloysius, Erica Penner, Marcella Rosenthal, Anne Deheer (missed this particular meeting) and Louanne Richards (taking photo of her amazing Chicken Pie!) meet monthly and always make sure there is food and beverage to keep the juices flowing. So maybe some of you ladies would like to get in on the action and consider taking on a Chair!! Sharing your ideas and planning for our Council is a fun challenge working together!

First CWL Council Meeting of 2016

New day! New time! Same station!  We had a wonderful turnout for our first attempt at changing the day to Sunday afternoon at 1:30pm in the portable. We are hoping that this will encourage members who do not like to drive at night to be available to attend more meetings,  So far so good!  We look forward to welcoming more ladies in our parish to come and see and to share in the work of the Catholic Women’s League.
