World Day of Migrants and Refugees

On January 19th, we celebrated the World Day of Migrants and Refugees with a special mass at the Holy Rosary Cathedral. The Universal Church has celebrated this day since 1914 and it is a wonderful reminder that the Archdiocese of Vancouver is home to many migrants who enrich the community with their cultures and with their faith. Pope Frances wrote a message for this special occasion, reminding us that Jesus, Mary and Joseph were migrants who left their own country and sought refuge in Egypt. Although the reasons are varied, the need continues today for people to leave their homelands in search of greener pastures. Pope Francis reminds us that migrants and refugees are brothers and sisters to be welcomed, respected and loved. The mass at the Cathedral was followed by a celebration in the hall that featured, food, music and dress from all corners of the world.
