Our parish celebrated its 100th anniversary with a special mass and gala dinner on the 14th of April, 2012. The special guests to the event included Archbishop Michael Miller, Port Moody’s Mayor Michael Clay, Fr. Nicholas Boomars, Fr. Stanley Galvon, Fr. Augustine Obiwumma, Msgr. Bernard Rossi, Fr. John Swinkels, Fr. Patrick Tepoorten, and Fr. Tien Tran. Mass was led by the Archbishop and priests, while the music was done by a choir that combined all of St. Joseph’s 4 choirs and the instrumentalists from those groups. Dinner presentations included a history of St. Joseph’s in pictures and stories. It was an evening to look back at how far our parish has come in the past 100 years, and to look forward to how we will take on the next century.
The ladies of the CWL took on the task of helping to set up the hall for dinner. A special thank you to Anne D, Cecilia H, Leona R, Louanne R, Marcella R, Mary-Ann T, Renee Y, Teodora L, and Teresita D. who set aside their morning and afternoon to decorate and set tables. Your work and time was greatly appreciated. We received the following note from Erica P. who worked on the organizing committee for the centennial dinner:
“I’d like to thank the CWL ladies for all the assistance received on Saturday. The work went quickly as everyone found a task to do and just went right to it. The room looked so beautiful with the final flowers. On my behalf, please pass on a HUGE HUG and thank you to each lady who came in the morning and later stayed to help.”
The 100th anniversary event was a wonderful celebration of our community. Our parish is a family in Christ and we have been blessed to share such a variety of events together: baptisms, weddings and funerals; pizza parties and gala dinners; quiet prayer with a friend, and exhilarating celebrations of Life in the Spirit. What wonderful memories are contained within the walls of our church.
