Speak Out For Life

Recent news has been covering the Supreme Court’s recent ruling regarding assisted suicide and the subsequent conversation on the issue. The Archdiocese is appealing to government to allow more time before legislation is created in order to properly explore the issues that relate to euthanasia. A number of events are being held throughout the diocese about this important development and more information can be found here.

The Catholic Women’s League has also been active in appealing to government to allow for enough time to explore the legal, moral and medical implications of laws around euthanasia. National President Barb Dowding’s eloquent letter to Canada’s Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada explains why this is so important and can be found by clicking on the link below.

Letter

Consider writing to your own Member of Parliament and our Minister of Justice to share your views on the issue. In addition, be a part of the Give Us Time campaign to add your voice to the thousands who have already spoken out. This is an issue that has potential to touch every family and it is important to learn more and to give voice to your concerns.

Celebrating Women of God

A very special evening and tribute to 57 Sisters was held at the Italian Cultural Center on Monday February 16th with Archbishop Michael, our CWL Diocesan Council, National President Barb Dowding, and Provincial President Pat Depiesse. The Sisters were so happy and full of joy with the attention, accolades, the dinner, their gifts, and orchid corsages to those celebrating, 25, 50 and 60 years as consecrated women of God!  Beautiful smiles, and comments warmed the room and it was a joy just to see so many ladies in their habits!  Our Region 4 hosted the event and Valerie and Alexis L., Erica P., Gayle M., Diane E., Louanne R. and Dina Z. from our council were the hostesses, welcoming and seating our Sisters. Our table was host to Sr. Mary Ellen Burns. In all, it was a wonderful evening of joy and celebration!

Spa Night

Our council enjoyed a fun and most informative evening with Health and Beauty coach Cherrie Tam, from our parish.  We heard how to better care for our bodies, watched some wrinkles on our hands smooth out with an amazing natural based crème, tasted chocolates with no sugar or artificial flavors, and Jessica Pan also decided we needed to learn how to tie scarves!  Lots of fun and laughter had by all.

World Day of Migrants and Refugees

The World Day of Migrants and Refugees mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Archbishop Michael Miller on January 18th.  “Church without frontiers, Mother to all“ was the theme of Pope Francis` letter on the 101st anniversary of the day of Migrants and Refugees.  Fourteen countries were represented and twelve groups shared dance and song much to the delight of 500 attendees. We pray that our hearts will allow us to show love and compassion for all migrants and refugees.
